About Our Camp

Gogama Lodge is a family owned and operated fishing/hunting camp located on 21 mile long Lake Minisinakwa in northern Ontario. We built the camp ourselves, and have continued to expand and improve the camp over the last 25 years.

We are located 460 miles north of Buffalo, New York, and can be reached by car, bus or airplane. Driving time is approximately 8 hours from Buffalo, 11 hours from Cleveland, 12 hours from Pittsburgh and 15 hours from Harrisburg and New York City. All roads to Gogama are paved highways for easy access.

Our dining room is noted for fine food and many of our guests have booked with us on this reputation alone. All meals are home cooked and served family style in our dining room, which displays many fine trophies.

Upon arrival, a member of each party is instructed on the proper operation of all equipment to assure a trouble free vacation. Fishing spots and methods are pointed out to help you get a good start.

We also own a Charter Air Service called 'Derry-Air', and have 14 outpost camps on various lakes back in the bush. We have boats and/or canoes on 35 other lakes, and are one of the originators of daily fly-in trips.

Our most popular packages are our daily fly-in packages where the guests fish our main lake three or four days, and fly-in to other lakes for other fish species three or four times. Our daily fly- in trips leave camp aft er break-fast and guests are picked up in the evening and returned to camp. You can fly to wilderness lakes for northern pike, walleye, bass, lake trout, rainbow trout or speckled trout.

It Is quite common for 2 people to catch and release 30 to 50 fish in a day and many of our guests have had larger catches. References to this fact can usually be furnished from guests in your local area.

Our largest walleye was 11 lbs. 2 oz. Our largest northern was 44 1/2" long and weighed 26 pounds. It was mounted by Bob Thuman Taxidermy of Lancaster, NY and adorns a wall in a home in Lan- caster. Top lake trout was 17 pounds, rainbow trout was 8 1/2 pounds, speckled trout was 6 1/2 pounds and smallmouth bass record is 5 1/2 pounds.

We have 2 sons who help us operate the camp. They are both pilots and excellent guides as well. They have helped Gogama Lodge to a total kill of 414 bears and 354 moose. Our largest moose had a 68" rack and we have had several between 55" and 60". Our largest spring bear dressed at 328 pounds.

Our boats are 15 feet long with an extremely wide beam and a lot of depth. Our motors on the main lake are 9.8 horse power and the motors used on flying lakes are 3 horse power.

For great food, excellent accommodations in a wilderness setting and a large variety of fish species, we feel we are the equal of any camp within an easy one day driving distance from western New York. We give all of our guests the personalized service needed for a vacation they will surely remember.
