Spring Bear Hunt

MAY and EARLY JUNE

A Saskatchewan Bear Hunt is an exciting experience and a lifelong memory. The sunny spring days spent in the wilderness awaiting the arrival of a hungry but wary black bear imprints pictures that stay in your memory for many years. Suddenly he is there. Where did he come from? He was so silent, nothing was heard!

This is a Thunder Hills Hunt... You will be hunting in a wilderness area with some log-out from the 1960's. This is a place for black bears to grow to prime maturity with Boone & Crockett skulls of 17 to 22 inches as norm.

Baits are set out starting around April 15th and once the bears are on the baits they are replenished with 5 gallons of food every other day.

You will be hunting from a tree stand, 12 feet in the air with the bait 50 yards away for rifle hunters and 12 yards away for bow hunters. This bait will have had large bear activity for at least 2 weeks before you arrive. Transportation to your tree stand will be by ATV. Stands are about 5 miles apart. The best time to be on your stand is from about 4 p. m. until 10 p. m.

An area is only hunted every second year and the camp will only take 20 hunters each year. This has proven not to decrease bear size. The bears in the area are aggressive, with all coloration present. This is the best indication there has not been over- harvesting.

Spring bear hunts will provide an opportunity to fish for Walleye and Northern pike in the river which is adjacent to the camp.

Saskatchewan Moose Hunt

Fall in the wilderness of Northern Saskatchewan means crisp cold days, sometimes with snow on the ground, the marshes are starting to freeze over and the rut is on. A lovesick bull moose, his hormones on the move, is looking for action. Elmer is ready to cause some response.

Thunder Hills can provide an outstanding Moose hunt. Your guide Elmer Henderson is an expert on imitating an eager cow moose calling to that excited bull or issuing a challenge call to him.

Moose hunts are a one to one guided hunt that requires the hunter to be in very good physical shape since a lot of area is covered in the bush. The animals will be called into close range but accurate shooting is required since they will be moving very rapidly.

The moose hunting season is relatively short and limited to the number of hunters that can be accommodated. Arrangements for a hunt will require more lead time than other hunts.

Saskatchewan White Tail Deer Hunt

Its a cold crisp morning and you are in your stand before daybreak. Either the cold or the excitement of the hunt causes shivers to run through your body. Will that "dream buck"show up today? The sky to the east begins to lighten, and now you can start to see the area around you. Slowly you can see more clearly, the game trail and the scrape. What was that? Did / hear something? Suddenly the chill is gone, your heart starts to race. There he is ... no doubt about that rack, you don't count the points, just raise your rifle and ease off the safety...

This is the Saskatchewan deer hunt you have dreamt about.

You will be hunting in an area that is fringe land... where forest and fields meet. The forest is primitive with some logging in past years. This is an excellent place for reclusive old bucks to get away from the hunting pressure.

In October we watch the scrapes, scrapelines, rubs and game trails. The tree stands are set up to the side of these using the prevailing wind advantage that allows the deer to come to you. We hunt the pre-rut, rut and just after the rut (a four week season) as this has proven to be when the big bucks are moving.

There is a September-October primitive weapons season. This can be incorporated into a "combo-hunt." Al has various options available ask him about it.
